The ICC Rankings are followed for international cricketers based on their ongoing and recent performances during the season. Current sponsor of ICC Rankings is Reliance Mobile who have signed a contract with the ICC that will last until 2015.
This Ranking system was first started in 1987. The overall theme of this idea was to produce a better performance graph of players based on their performances by considering average. overall Career averages based on a player’s entire career performance and ignoring match conditions or opposition, whereas the ratings are biased towards recent form and also considering quality of the opponent using best effective measures.
This rankings were for Test cricket only and it was started for One Day International in 1998. Now a days different forms of cricket showing up and accordingly rankings are created. From 2003 onwards, David Kendix is responsible for calculating and ICC rankings.
